A struggle of a season has come to an end for the men's tennis team while the women continue to fight for the conference champion title. The women played Kansas Wesleyan University yesterday at 3 p.m. in the Quarterfinals of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Results were not available at press time. A win for the women would mean they advance to Bethel College Friday for a chance at the KCAC title. On April 18, the teams traveled to Bethel. Both teams lost. The women had a lone win against the Lady Threshers when Madison Lumm, elementary education senior, beat Bethel's Maya Kehr 7-5 and 6-2 in number two singles play. The men, however, had no such luck and lost 9-0 in a very wind-stricken game against the Threshers. "I think our team did very well during the season considering the competition we had," Jacob Tafoya, computer information systems freshman, said. "I was not expecting a majority of our conference's teams to be as good as they were." The men lost 9-0 in their quarterfinal match against Tabor College on Monday, ending 4-9 for the season and receiving fifth place in the KCAC. The match marked the end of tennis careers for Lancelot Williams, business administration senior, and Bo Webster, business administration senior. With a few new recruits coming to help out the roster next year, the men are looking forward to the next. "We're going to be a lot better next year," Jeff Smith, physical education sophomore, said. "This year we were basically just trying to get guys better." John Paulin, head tennis coach, said, "The season winds down before we know it. We're looking forward to next year." "OneĀ of the positive aspects of this year's team was how well everyone got along with each other," Tafoya said. "We also were fortunate enough to have a coach who knows what he's talking about and is very helpful to everyone on the team for advice during matches."
