Youth Symphony performs season finale on Sunday
Issue date: 4/16/08 Section: Campus Life
The Southwestern College Youth Symphony season finale concert will be at 6 p.m. April 20 in Richardson Auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Pieces to be performed include "Grand March" from "Tannhauser," "Procession of the Sardar," "The Tempest," "Song of the Prairie," "Lead on, O King Eternal," and the final movement of Beethoven's Fifth symphony.
"The SC Youth Symphony has experienced an incredible second season," said Daniel Stevens, assistant professor of strings music. "Musical growth of the orchestra is producing fine student musicians, and new school districts are beginning to hear about the program. While numbers still need to grow to accomplish the 90+ musician vision for the program, I am encouraged by the energy of our families. Numbers at concerts, opportunities to perform in Wichita, and a stable working budget has helped us cast a future for success. I have to thank our generous community for making this a successful student ensemble."
