The South Kansas Symphony Orchestra at Southwestern College, the A Cappella Choir, and the SC Singers will present a concert at 3 p.m. April 20 in Richardson Auditorium. Tere is no admission charge.
Under the direction of Daniel Stevens, assistant professor of strings, the South Kansas Symphony will perform "Warrior's Run" (Kirt Mosier), "Pavane for a Dead Princess" (Maurice Ravel), "Sleeping Beauty Waltz" (Tchaikovsky), and selections from the "Phantom of the Opera" (Andrew Lloyd Webber).
"As the 103rd season of the South Kansas Symphony comes to a close, I am amazed by the growth of students and excited to return the orchestra to its former glory," Stevens said.
David Gardner, assistant professor of music and director of choirs, will direct the A Cappella Choir and the SC Singers.
The A Cappella Choir welcomes the Musica! children's choir as their guest to perform with them on a new piece entitled "Dance of Zalongo."
In addition the choir will be performing "Somewhere" from "West Side Story."
The SC Singers will sing an arrangement of "Luk Luk Lumbu," a traditional Indonesian song, and both choirs will reprise one or two favorites from earlier performances this year.
"It's been fun to learn music from other cultures with the SC Singers this year," Gardner said. "We have a variety of cultures from around the world represented in our choirs, and Budi Taniwan (a student from Indonesia) has been a great help as we've worked on 'Luk Luk Lumbu.'"
