The men's and women's golf teams traveled to Shawnee, Okla., this past Monday and Tuesday to play in the Bison Invitational at the Shawnee Country Club. The five men who qualified to compete were Tyler Lytton, business senior, Pat Fulton, business senior, Andrew Manly, accounting junior, Jared Paul, business sophomore, and Kenneth Wright, business sophomore. Scores were not available at press time. On March 29 and 30 the men's team competed in the Spring Invitational in Newton at the Hesston Golf Course and the Sand Creek Station. The tournament was hosted by Bethel College. Manley led the way for the Builders by taking third out of 120 golfers with 73-68-141. Lytton finished fifth with 71-72-143. Wright placed 11th with 71-76-147. Fulton placed 15th with 75-73-148. Paul finished 33rd with 73-81-154. Levi Moreland, business senior, placed 41st with 73-82-155. Westin Weeast, business junior, finished 81st with 83-83-166. The team took first out of 18 teams. Manley said, "We played well and it was our best performance since our coach has been here." The women's team traveled to Granbury, Texas March 31 and April 1 to play in the Bluebonnet Classic at the Harbor Lakes Golf Course. The tournament was hosted by Northwood University. Blair Koehn, business junior, led the Lady Builders by taking 22nd out of 62 golfers. Blair had a score of 82-88-170. Rachael Locke, business senior, finished 32nd with 87-92-179. Kenna Corley, digital arts junior, placed 50th with 91-101-192. Kaydee Johnson, business freshman, placed 53rd with 97-100-197. Amy Kellner, graduate student, finished 57th with 101-110-211. The team took ninth out of 12 teams. Much improvement is needed before the next tournament. Johnson said, "We worked to improve from tournament to tournament as a team by practicing and spending time on the range and improving our score in tournament play. "We try to think about what we did really well and work on what we did badly and try to move on and look optimistically at the next tournament." The women will be competing April 14 and 15 in the Pirate Invitational in Parkville, Mo., at the National Golf Course. The tournament will be hosted by Park University. The next tournament for the men will be April 21 and 22 the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Conference Championship in Garden City at the Buffalo Dunes Golf Course. Their performance in this tournament will be pertinent for the rest of their season. Fulton said, "It is very important because we want to win conference three years in a row and we have to win regionals in order to go to nationals."
