Sacks of cans and plastic bottles are ready to be weighed in for the Tri Beta recycling competition. The sacks are located at the recycling center behind Sutton. The Admissions team is currently in first place after week one of weighing. In the first week of weighing Tri Beta collected over 450 pounds of material. That total is with only five of the nine teams weighing in.

Taking part in making the environment better is important. That is what Tri Beta is working on every day until Earth Day which is April 22. They are sponsoring a recycling competition on campus.
Both students and faculty are involved. The teams competing are Admissions, the Book Cave, Dream and Green Time, Recyclons, Phi Delts, Leadership, Golf, Tellus Interdiu, and a team of unnamed students.
"We have nine teams in the recycling competition, two faculty teams and seven student teams," said Ann Weese, biology junior. Weese is the vice president of Tri Beta. Maggie Ferguson, biology senior, is the Tri Beta president. "The recycling competition is going well. Last week we collected over 450 pounds of material, and then only five teams weighed in,' said Ferguson.
Tri Beta is working with the competition by getting the word out, collecting the material from the different teams every week, taking all the material to the recycling center, over viewing the points for the teams, making the rules for the competition, and making sure they are followed.
Teams don't have to weigh in every week. The first week went very well with the five teams that did weigh in. The recycling competition will continue until Earth Day. "Keep collecting, and keep bringing it in," said Ferguson.
Weese said, "Right now we are in the middle of the recycling competition. Then we have a convention in Missouri this coming weekend."
The regional convention is mostly for students from different colleges to get together. There are activities like canoeing, caving, and a poster competition between the people from the different colleges. The winner of this competition will go to the national convention.
Diane Dixon, biology junior, said, "Everybody in Tri Beta is helping out with the recycling competition, I am not going to the regional convention this weekend, but it will be a blast for those going."
