The semester is already half way through, and before we know it will be over. For all those returning students there are quite a few things that need to be done. Signing up for housing is one of them.
Sarah Hallinan, director of resident life, has advice for what students can do to prepare for housing sign-up. "I think students need to find a roommate that they can get along with," said Hallinan. "It is also important to find roommate that they know is going to stay the whole year, because if they leave, the person left will be responsible.
"Another important thing is to figure out who your roommate is going to be," said Hallinan. "Having a second choice for apartments and rooms is also a good idea, because rooming seems to build up really quick, so have a second choice."
Sign up for housing for returning students began March 3 and will last until March 7, and the steps are easy to follow. Visit the website, sckans.edu/residencelife, click on "Returning student Housing Sign-up", and more details will be available.
"The only place that has a criteria for living is Warren Apartments, you have to be 20 years old and of junior status to be allowed to live there," said Hallinan.
The other dorms have their standards too when it comes to living in them. Getting into the dorm you want is based on your GPA, and the amount of credit hours. If you choose to live in a room by yourself, things are based on your GPA, and your number of credit hours. If you choose to live with someone elsewhere, you will be housed based on everyone in the apartment's GPA and everyone's amount of hours.
Finding a roommate is not always easy for everyone, there are a lot of things that need to be taken in consideration. If there is someone who might get on your nerves, it is probably not the best idea to live with that person, because you wouldn't want to be around them almost all day.
Caitlin Smith, undecided sophomore, is an RA in Cole hall this year. She thinks that there are a few things that people should take into consideration before they pick roommates for next semester.
"It is important to make sure that they can stand to be around the person, and have similar living habits," said Smith "Everyone needs to realize that sometimes living with your best friend isn't the greatest idea."
Morgan Stacy, chemistry sophomore, has already made up her mind about
rooming next year and she thinks it is important to find a good roommate. "I think it is
important to room with somebody that I am compatible with."
