There are only a few days left get involved. "To provide the means whereby the members of the student body may express themselves effectively through programs in areas which directly affect their intellectual, educational, social, financial, physical, and spiritual welfare." This statement can be found in the Student Government Association's Constitution. SGA is seeking new members. Currently, SGA has 20 senators, five executives, and one adviser. SGA's constitution says that it should always have 14 elected academic division representatives, five at-large members, four elected class presidents, five members of the SGA executive committee, the Student Foundation president, and director of campus life. Tabatha McMullen, early childhood education junior, is the secretary and junior class president for SGA. "We are a little short right now because of people graduating at semester.   Also, the freshman class president will not be elected until the fall because there are no new freshmen here yet," said McMullen. Anyone who is seeking to be a part of decisions on campus should look at becoming a member of SGA. "We are looking for anyone who has a desire to have a voice on our campus and wants to be a part of the judicial process on decisions regarding campus organizations, funding for these organizations, and student concerns," said McMullen. It only takes a few steps to become an SGA senator. Packets can be picked up in the Campus Life Office and that must be signed by 25 people who believe that the person would be a good senator. Then, the packet is turned back in to the Campus Life Office or an SGA executive. Carmon Bliss, education senior, is president of SGA. "If one so desires, they may campaign by placing flyers up, putting things in people's mailboxes, or talking to people personally about why they are running," said Bliss. Finally is the election process. Bliss said, "Lastly, the elections committee produces the ballots and holds an election. The ballots are counted as soon as the poles close, and the results are announced within the next day." Senators will not be the only positions being elected at this time. The president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and student conduct adviser will also be appointed at this time. McMullen said, "This Friday is the last day to turn in packets to run for any senator position, class president, or executive office. March 3 through March 7 is the week to campaign." Elections will be held March 11 and 12 in the Java Jinx during meal times. Cameron Siefkes is a sophomore at communication. You may e-mail her at cameron.siefkes@sckans.edu.
