Power outage strikes half of campus

On Feb. 19 classes were relocated
or cancelled due to power outage problems that were supposed
to occur in Christy and did not.
This caused a huge setback for class schedules. Alissa Sheppard,
communication freshman, said, "I was bothered by this because
I had a lot of things due that day."
This problem was caused when the main transformer behind
Wroten lost a phrase due to a previous storm that had occurred.
The city was called to take a look at the transformer and found a hole burnt in the middle of the pole.
The transformer that was damaged feeds the majority of the north side of campus. This includes Honors, Darbeth, Wroten,
and Christy.
When the power went out, it only blew out half the service. This caused the school to cancel
classes unaware that all the power wouldn't be lost.
There will be another power problem occurring on March 1. The data network will be offline and inaccessible.
Any individual who is on the main campus will be unable to access the internet, or any server located on the main campus.
This will include e-mail, printing, all campus web pages, IQ.Web, and Blackboard.
If you are off campus Blackboard
will still be accessible but there will be no access to any resource with sckans.edu in its name.
Dennis Love, electrician, said, "The server will be moved from its present location to the lower level of Christy."
The server is only being moved to ensure that this problem
does not occur again.
