Indoor track met once again last Saturday Feb. 16 at Norman for the Oklahoma Christian Invitational. Mike Kirkland, head women's track coach said, "I think that we've got several who have already established themselves for the national meet. Sarah Morton is an automatic qualifier already. She is currently ranked ninth in the country. We've got two relays that have hit provisional marks. They are 16th in the country. Our two mile relay is thirteenth in the country. We have several others who are very close to either a provision or an automatic qualifier." The team is progressing every week with only one indoor meet to go, and the national championship coming up the track team has a lot to prepare for these next two weeks. "The throwers will separate from the team this week and head to Bethany for a thrower's meet," said Jim Helmer, men's track coach. Charles Wells set a new school record in the 60 M for the second week in a row, and once again met the national indoor "B" qualifying standard. He also had a personal best in the 200 M. "Cody Annis ran the fastest open 400 M for our program in several years, qualifying for nationals by meeting the "B" standard. He also had another personal best in the mile relay," said Helmer. The two mile relay had an automatic national qualifying standard by over three seconds. All of the four runners had personal best times. Aric Cherry, anchoring the two mile relay with 1:56:32, then coming back to win the 800 M with a 1:58:52. "Andrew Topham a freshman continues to improve this season by winning the 5,000 M with a "B" national qualifying time," said Helmer. Cordairo Hansen broke his own school record in the Heptathlon by 131 points, getting several personal best in the seven event competition. This week the team will prepare for Kansas State Invitational held on Saturday Feb. 23. Korie Hawkins is a freshman majoring in journalism and communication.
