It was a difficult loss to open the season for the men's basketball team. The Builders played the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and despite playing tough all game, lost 71-47.

Doug Hall, head men's basketball coach, said, "In the first game I wanted to see our team play hard and fast. I wanted to see them execute what we have been practicing and play through mistakes."

The team talked of working to improve and prevent mistakes from occurring so often.

Moses Harper, forward, said, "We need to be more careful with the basketball and go hard every possession."

Rebounding played a huge factor in the outcome of the game.

Harper said, "They were a very athletic team. We worked all week on boxing out but we didn't carry it over to the game. We are going to go back to the drawing board and just get ready for our next game."

The team has talent at many positions. Hall said, "I wasn't really sure who was going to start. Some of the positions on our team are locked with great players who played last year."

The team has been working during the off-season. Hall said, "We have spent a lot of time conditioning to stay in shape. We have focused on both offense and defense by doing a lot of repetition and teaching our players the correct spots they should be in."

The men have an advantage over their opponents.

Hall said, "We have a lot of experience on the depth chart. We return seven of 10 players from last year. We also have good size on our team to wear down our opponents and out physical them."

The team's next game is against Nov. 10 at Manhattan Christian College.
