Children of all ages are welcome to try out any instrument they wish. There will be no animals at this petting zoo. It is all about instruments.
It is called a petting zoo because children can touch and play the instruments. They will be able to drag a bow across a violin or blow through a trombone.
Daniel Stevens, assistant professor of music, said, "This event is tailored more toward kids. It is a way for us to talk with children about instruments."
This is not a fundraiser and there is no admission fee.
Stevens also said the band and orchestra will be playing a short concert before the petting zoo for about 20 to 30 minutes. The purpose of this event is to get children excited and involved with music.
Christopher Schmitz, assistant professor of music, said, "There will be a significant amount of instruments from both the orchestra and the band."
He also said there will be a short concert and some speaking before the students will get to use the instruments.
The performance will be in Messenger Hall and the petting zoo will be in the lobby of Messenger.
