JV teams provide college opportunities, scholarships for average athletes

Abstract:
Scoring the winning basket at the buzzer of the championship game is the dream of every basketball player. Children spend hours in the gym or in ¬¬their backyard playing imaginary basketball games in their heads. They count down the final seconds out loud and hoist up the "game winner." As they watch the ball swish through the net, they make the sound of the buzzer with their mouths. Basketball players everywhere have this vision. However, I wonder how many young athletes are imagining hitting the game-winning shot of a Junior Varsity game.

Interesting article. I really like the position the writer takes about the benefits of college junior varsity teams. Not sure why more athletic programs don't have j.v. squads...probably money. As the co-author of the book, How To Win A Sports Scholarship, I would be surprised to learn that there are athletic scholarships available for junior varsity teams...but I could be wrong. Would like to hear from someone about that.

Thanks for reading my article Penny.

I know for a fact that some institutions do indeed offer scholarships for junior varsity athletic programs. As far as I know, those scholarships are not nearly as much as someone may receive for playing varsity. As we both know, any amount of money is helpful when paying for college.

I am curious if there are any full ride scholarships given to athletes participating on junior varsity teams.
